Magic the greyhound came to visit today with her owner Paul from Dogs Trust. We learned all about caring for our dogs and that dogs are a pet for life (not just for Christmas!)

We love to move to the groove. Thanks to our dance teacher Lisa for teaching us some killer dance moves. She will be here with us until Hallowe'en!! We are back for another school year. 2nd class welcomed 1st class to their new room with open arms. Here we are on our first day getting to know each other a little better.
It's hard to believe that another school year is over. It has been a great year with many fond memories. Have a look through the collection of photo's from our last week in school. Enjoy the summer holidays everyone!!!
No you are not seeing double. This is Kian one year later with another medal he brought in from a special run which took place recently.
Have a look at some of the things we have been getting up to in class lately. Between music, tennis, hurling and swimming we are keeping active with summer just around the corner. Local beekeeper Mr. Plunkett gave us a fantastic lesson all about bees and how they make honey.
We then painted some bee houses and birdhouses for our school and village. It was great fun and we are glad to know that all the birds and bees are being well looked after. Rachel won a Papa John's colouring page competition.
The prize was a trip for our entire class to Papa John's to make pizza. We were shown how the pizzas were made before we got to make our own. We got to choose our own toppings. They were YUMMY! All of our class grouped are named after sweets for the Summer term ( Munchies, Polos, Rolos and Skittles) so we decided to carry out some tests on different sweets. Our first test was the rocket launcher test using mentos and diet coke. It really did work! Our second test was using skittles and hot water to create a colour mix. It also worked. And our last test was to see if skittles taste really good. They do! Our school garden is looking wonderful. We went to see how the plants are getting on. We planted our own in class but they needed more space, sun and water to fully grow. We will be checking them every week hoping for changes! After so many of us went to see the show Joey Telescope we wanted learn more about the Workhouse in Birr.
Unfortunately nobody can get in there so we went to see the workhouse in Portumna instead. We also paid a visit to Portumna Castle and the Forest Park. The sun even came out to make the day extra special. Well done to the boys and girls in 2nd class on making their first reconciliation recently. They thought long and hard about the mistakes they made in the past and now they will make better decisions in the future.
We had great fun recently mixing different things with water. Now we know why we put milk in our tea and not cooking oil.......some things just don't mix! We celebrated World Book Day today by bringing in our favourite books from home and spending some time reading them in class. We love reading in our class. We have been studying Narrative Writing over the past few weeks. One of the students in 2nd class redesigned the old classic 'The Gruffalo'. Take a look below. We have been studying the famous Italians Leonardo da Vinci and Michelanglo. We wondered how Michelanglo was able to paint the roof of the Sistine chapel upside down for 3 whole years. We tried to paint our own pictures in class upside by sticking the page under our desk and lying on the floor. It wasn't as easy or as comfortable as we thought it was going to be! Lots of our parents heard the saying ' An apple a day keeps the doctor away' when they were growing up but we have a new twist on that saying........
'A LAP a day keeps the doctor away' Everyday we will be running to build up our fitness. It's also great for our minds because it gives us a break from class. We aim to become fitter and happier children! Usually we are just normal children in a normal school with a normal teacher............. Until Hallowe'en comes...................
HAPPY HALLOWE'EN!!!! |
